In Verona the price is driven mainly by the opera season. December is cheapest, when rates drop to about 180 dollars a night, as the Arena falls silent and there are fewer tourists. July is the priciest, at the height of the summer opera season, when rates reach about 485 dollars, almost three times the winter level. The arrival day matters too: Sunday tends to be cheapest, Thursday the most expensive, close to the weekends with performances. Where to look for a stay in Verona

Verona is small and built around the Arena, so instead of districts what counts is the distance from the old town. Most places are in Citta Antica, the historic centre, with the Arena, Juliet's House and the main squares at hand, but also the highest prices. It is quieter and cheaper further out, towards Borgo Trento across the river or Borgo Milano by the stadium, an easy walk or a bus ride to the centre. Some hotels sit on the outskirts, where it is cheapest, but the buses run less often in the evening, so without a car it is better to stay closer to the old town.
